About Girls Code the World
Girls Code the World (GCTW) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to empowering girls and young women to become confident leaders in STEM. Through hands-on programs, extended mentorship, and a growing network, we remove barriers and open doors to thriving STEM careers.
Our Director of Fundraising Strategy runs December 2025 to December 2027 with opportunity for extension.
Why This Role Matters
Sustainable funding is the engine that powers every program, workshop, mentor match, and internship we offer. As our first Director of Fundraising Strategy you will architect that engine – designing a clear revenue roadmap and guiding a team of volunteer Grant Writing Interns (ages 16–22) who turn strategy into winning proposals.
Core responsibilities
What you’ll do:
Fundraising Strategy
Craft a 12- to-18-month fundraising plan covering grants, corporate sponsorships, individual giving, and signature campaigns (e.g., Giving Tuesday)
Giving Tuesday is our most important fundraising event of each year; organizing Girls Code the World’s Giving Tuesday campaign involves strategic planning, compelling storytelling, and digital outreach to raise funds and awareness for girls in STEM.
Responsibilities include creating specific content for email and social media, engaging donors and partners, and tracking campaign performance. Post-campaign efforts focus on donor stewardship and impact reporting.
Establish KPIs and a simple dashboard to track pipeline health, deadlines, and dollars secured
Grant Development & Intern Management
Lead concise 45-minute Zoom meetings every two weeks with 4–7 Grant-Writing Interns; set agendas, assign research/writing tasks, and provide coaching
Review and edit proposals before submission; maintain a shared calendar of grant cycles and requirements
Help interns upskill on best grant-writing practices (especially on how to leverage GenAI – specifically ChatGPT – to improve efficiency and quality of output) and collating meaningful resources for them
Cross-functional Collaboration
Partner with the Director of Finances & Accounting on budgets and compliance
Work with the Director of Partnerships on co-funding/sponsorship opportunities
Supply impact data and success stories to the Marketing, Communications, and Public Relations (MCPR) team for donor stewardship
Board Leadership
Report progress at quarterly virtual Board meetings and two in-person strategy retreats per year in Philadelphia, PA (travel expenses not covered)
Contribute fundraising insight to broader organizational strategy discussions
Skills & qualities we value
Proven experience in nonprofit fundraising, grant writing, or corporate philanthropy
Strategic thinker who can translate big goals into actionable, trackable steps
Confident facilitator and mentor – especially with high-school/college students
Excellent written storyteller who can tailor messages to diverse funders
Highly organized, proactive, and responsive within 2-3 days to scheduling/emails
Passion for creating an inclusive STEM pipeline for girls and women
Commitment to ethical fundraising practices to ensure integrity and alignment with the organization’s mission in all donor engagements and partnerships
Digital fluency in fundraising and outreach – skilled at leveraging social media to cultivate relationships, raise visibility, and engage supporters in a mostly virtual environment
Commitment & Expectations
Time: ~4-6 hours/month (includes intern meetings, asynchronous review, and Board work); can peak to ~10 hours/month during in-person Board meeting months
Meetings:
2 in-person Board meetings each year in the Philadelphia area (full day; dates set 4-6 months ahead)

Girls Code the World is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that provides resources, role models, and opportunities for young girls in science, technology, engineering, and math through STEM-related educational programming and extended mentorships. It was founded by Sydney Gibbard and Mina Shokoufandeh in 2018.
We work with a primarily socioeconomically disadvantaged and underrepresented community. Our curriculum for our educational programs should target our population's interests. This means our curriculum must be engaging for youth, should inspire them with role models that come from a similar background, and must expose them to a variety of opportunities within the STEM fields.
